| "allow myself to introduce... myself..." hey there, my name is scott. i'm currently an animation student located in southern california. i've had this account for a couple years, but haven't put it to good use until recently. i was torn between putting up a sketchblog, which has the benefit of showing work over time - making time the context - and posting in a gallery like this. but sketchblogs kind of imply a fairly regular schedule, and i can't commit to proper maintenance with the school/work schedule i have. so here i am! i'll be displaying work at random intervals. big fan of randomness. i'm very into comic art and storytelling, as well as animation artwork. some of my favorite comic artists/storytellers are paul pope, david lapham, adam warren, mike mignola, frank cho, adam hughes, moebius, serpieri, jordan crane, tony millionaire, jeff smith, john pham, dean haspiel, geoff darrow, bruce timm, and darwyn cooke. i like most of the adult swim lineup, love aqua teen and venture bros, the original ren & stimpy, flapjack, powerpuff girls, graham annable, david oreilly and don hertzfeldt's stuff. i'm pretty amazed by the quality of classic cartoons, like the fleishers' popeyes, chuck jones, tex avery and bob clampett shorts for warner and mgm. swing shift cinderella cracks me up, and the animation is gorgeous! i've enjoyed most of the anime i've seen, and love a lot of the character design, artwork and color schemes employed in anime, but wouldn't consider myself a hardcore fan. akira was great, but if you liked it, you HAVE to read the manga! otomo, shirow and miyazaki is all the name-dropping i have for you on the anime front. as for "Art" art, i've always liked mucha, mackintosh, and many of the american illustrators (leyendecker and rockwell, for instance). but most of the experience i've had with what the world at large considers art has been through formal education, thus the list of artists i really love is more based on the work i was exposed to/could afford at a younger age. nothing wrong with the classics (or the contemporaries) but i'm more likely to lean lowbrow. it's in my veins! as a student, i'm very open to criticism, and if you have something constructive to say, i'd love it if you'd share with me. if you have something destructive to say, feel free to point out my flaws. i never claimed to be great or perfect. that said, enjoy the show! |
